Future Tense

Liza was doing what she always wanted to do - clearing the attic.
"Great use of the Covid-19 lockdown!" her grandma joked.

The two ladies were in financial difficulty following a car-accident that killed Liza's grandfather and parents.

Liza dropped out of college to join work.
Then, the pandemic struck...

Liza found old things interesting.
The attic was a treasure-house!

She was thrilled to find a water-colour dated 1920.
Liza researched old city guides and online resources.

"Grandma, your grandfather had made this painting of Paris! It shows the Paris of 2020!"

Opening their window, they admired the striking similarity...

100 words story for Friday Fictioneers.

What do you think happens next?
What do you do when you find something from the past?

How are you putting the lockdown to use?
I cleared the attic today. Didn't find any precious or rare paintings though :)
Stay Home. Stay Safe. Take Care.

  1. Grandpa was a time traveller?
Really does make wonder. Glad the women have each other.

  2. What an interesting angle on the photo prompt, Anita.

  3. Dear Anita,

Many attics and homes are being cleared and cleaned these days. Sounds like Grandpa was either a time traveler or a clairvoyant.

  4. A lot of housework and attics being emptied at the moment, I wonder what treasures will be unearthed!

  5. Maybe grandpa isn't really gone, maybe he's just in another time now? I enjoyed your story.

  6. Some are using this time for decluttering, others for cooking... Grandpa had special powers, methinks

  7. Interesting take on the prompt. Grandpa seems to have some special powers--time travel?

  8. Wow, that painting might be the key to a better life ... after COVID of course. Magical tale!

  9. Amusing take, I wonder how he did it

  10. I'd like to get to know Grandpa. Good job!

  11. Hey, this is not part of the A to Z Challenge? Wonder how you manage to find time to write so much. Hats off to you!

That was a short and 'bittersweet' story. You feel bad about the tragic background and yet feel proud about the hidden talent that runs in their heritage.

Your words mean a lot to me.
