Blog To Feed A Child - III

We can help eliminate classroom hunger by providing good food to all the children.

Classroom hunger implies much more than a child's hunger when in a classroom... It is successfully addressed and satisfied in many schools in India.

Food served in the schools i.e. the mid-day meals happen to be the sole meal of the day for many children as their parents cannot afford food to feed them.

Thus, one of the important reasons why the child is in a classroom in the first place is to drive off hunger.
Mid-Day Meals are effective because-

Increased enrolment – Mid-day meals are an incentive for children to attend school as it’s the only meal in a day that many get to access…

Increased attendance – School is attractive & children want to attend as they don’t wish to miss a delicious meal.

Increased concentration – A healthy & nutritious mid-day meal betters a child’s concentration & performance.

Improved socialisation – The children of various social strata, castes & religions unitedly eat together.

Reduced malnutrition – Akshaya Patra’s efforts are directed to cater to a growing child’s nutritional requirements with balanced food.

Empowered women – Akshaya Patra provides employment to women and improves their quality of life. Empower a woman and empower a family, including her children.

Getting a quality serving of the nutritious food- the mid-day meal means a lot to the children.

I feel mid-day meals must be continued and their network & reach must be widened so as to cover the entire length and breadth of our country.

Akshaya Patra’s successful PPP Model- Public Private Partneship should be either replicated by other NGOs and/or the network should be widened/enhanced to cover all.

Eliminating hunger is a challenge that needs all stakeholders’ active involvement & participation.

Feeding a child and educating a child is noble.
Empowering a child to feed self as well as one’s family in the future is nobler.
Even better when such children as future citizens join in this process & help sustain it.

I dream of an India where every child is well-fed & happy.
How wonderful the India of my dreams will be!

Let’s join together if this is also your wish-
Contributing to happy faces fills us with bliss…

  5. I agree that Akshaya Patra should expand their network and should also assist other NGOs to replicate their model. That's the only way more children can be reached.
However, other NGO's replicating Akshaya Patra's model is easier said than done. Realistically, how many NGOs would have the same spirit of service, the passion and the resources that Akshaya Patra has? Hence, I think that expansion of Akshaya Patra's network is probably the most practical option. We can do our bit by making donations to Akshaya Patra.
