Silver City Cuttack

Cuttack is the former capital of the state of Odisha, India.
It is the twin city of Bhubaneswar, the present capital of Odisha.


Cuttack is an ancient city of immense historical significance. Owing to its rich history, Cuttack is also called the Millennium City and the City of 1000 Years.
It is called Silver City due to its amazing and exquisite silver jewellery works that are available.
Cuttack is also famous for its Silver Filigree Durga Puja statues and wonderful Pandals, lighting and celebration. Idols are worth crores of rupees.

Cuttack has much to its credit.
Centuries-old festivals and events are still celebrated viz. BaliJatra of Cuttack.

Asia's largest rice research institute- the Central Rice Research Institute is in Cuttack.
Ravenshaw University, one of the oldest institutes of India & the oldest college of Odisha, is in Cuttack.
The Odia Film Industry called Ollywood is based in Cuttack.
Cuttack has the Odisha High Court.

What To Visit
The following are some interesting must-visit places in Cuttack:

Cuttack Chandi Temple - Cuttack Chandi is a Devi Maa Temple dedicated to Goddess Chandi. She is much revered.

The Barabati Fort - The ruins with moat, gate etc of an erstwhile grand castle built by the Ganga dynasty in the 14th Century now exist. 
As per the Wikipedia:
"The name of the city (Cuttack) is an anglicized form of Katak which literally means The Fort, a reference to the ancient Barabati Fort around which the city initially developed"
Cuttack Railway Station - This railway-station is styled like the Barabati Fort.

The Barabati Stadium - Cricket-lovers are aware of this stadium that has hosted many cricket-matches.

Netaji Birthplace Museum - Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack. His birthplace, Janakinath Bhawan has now been converted into a museum.

Deer Park - This park is situated in a picturesque location beside the Mahanadi Ring Road overseeing the Mahanadi river.

State Maritime Museum - There are many interesting exhibits here. This also has a new aquarium with rare aquatic species of fishes. It is a real treat.

What To Eat
Cuttack offers an amazing variety of food - everything from authentic Odia cuisine to North Indian and South Indian foods like Biryani, Dosas etc. Don't miss the snacks and sweets!
Definitely try the DahiVada-Aloodum, Chaat, Gupchup (Odia term that refers to Golgappa/Paanipuri)

What To Buy
Do buy beautiful Tarakasi i.e. silver filigree- jewellery- ear-rings, necklaces, sets etc. or decorative items- Konark wheel, fish, idols of Gods etc. from Cuttack.

Traditional cow-horn sculpture of birds, elephants etc look pretty as decorations on walls or show-cases or for gifting or souvenirs.
Cuttack boasts of a variety of traditional Odia silk sarees. You can also find fashionable modern clothes too.
Pack some sweets and snacks like mixtures.
