All Are Safe

She loved the outings with her grandfather.

They cycled taking the roads less travelled.

One day, they found a shortcut to the woods.

An abandoned van made Grandpa say- "So here you are!"

Photo Prompt- Russell Gayer
He fondled the van like an old friend!

They struggled to open the jammed door.

"See the sticker here?" Grandpa asked showing her the dashboard.

"The Gods are still smiling the same way they were doing a decade ago when I had bought this van...

Your grandma had put this sticker for my safety."

"Her prayers have worked," she answered looking skywards.

"All of us are safe!"

  1. I wasn't quite clear. Was the van stolen and have they just recovered it?

    1. I'll try to express better the next time.
      More about this story-
The van was stolen years ago.
Grandpa & Grand-daughter while cycling & exploring another place, discovered it abandoned near the woods.
      The van brought old memories.
The sticker of the Gods was still intact. It showed that the van really belonged to Grandpa.

  5. I like the way you use the cycling expeditions as a lead-in to the discovery of the van. It's a well paced story.

  6. We humans do get attached to our stuff. The old man is reunited with an old flame - his van.

    1. Very true.
We humans are attached. We feel bad when things are stolen.
But, experience joys when reunited! :)

  7. What an experience for them to find the old van. Too bad Grandma isn't around to see it any longer. Lovely story.

  10. That's the way my husband felt about an old white van he bought. He loved that vehicle so much! It was a beast to drive, for me, but he would never have parted with it if it hadn't literally fallen apart!

  11. Interesting tale. Either he hid in there or someone else had hid it there - I wasn't sure - but either way, a sweet tale!
