The Missing Diary

My diary was missing.

I had looked for it everywhere.

It had my deepest secrets.

I was not too worried that anyone could read it.

I write using 'invisible ink' and only I can read the text...

I had been documenting for long.

Had someone stolen it?

My heart skipped a beat when I went to the balcony.

My diary had fresh water-colour art.

It had been kept out in the sun to dry the paint.

A little artist had been busy the whole afternoon!

It was too late to do anything when I found out who was behind it.

Write a short story that starts or ends with- "It was too late to do anything when I found out who was behind it." #shortstory

Do you maintain a diary? What will be your reaction if you find your diary is missing?
Has your child or a younger member of the family claimed any of your possessions in this way?

  1. I committed a similar crime when I was a child

  2. Dear Anita,

    I keep a diary...password encrypted.

  3. A little colour might improve it!

  4. I have journals, electronic and notebook form. They have been violated and read. What I discovered was no body liked my truth. Reader beware. So while I never flaunted my private writings I don't hide either. People should mind their own business and respect privacy. As Bridget Jones said "everyone knows diaries are full of crap".

  5. I've always thought it would be fun to leave behind a diary full of made up stuff that would amaze those that thought they knew me!

    Here's mine!

  6. I've tried a time or two over my 73 years to keep a diary or journal. Two different things. On reading them, I decided they were icky, self-serving, and completely uninteresting to anyone else but me. I've been told that all good writers keep journals. Maybe I'm not destined to be rich and famous :)

  7. My diaries are only interesting to me. My travel journals are something else altogether! :)

  8. Oh! To have one's diary so "ruined"... I'd be so upset, even though mine is meant for my eyes only...

  9. It seems diaries are a very female thing.
A man might record achievements in a journal, but not emotions.
Unless, of course, he is 13 and 3/4

  10. Enjoyed the story and the style in which you told it. Well done. For me, much analogy.

  11. I kept one for a few uears as a teenager, but it was so typical it embarrassed me and I binned it!

  12. This brought a smile but I suspect the diary owner wasn't too impressed

  13. Wow this one is just so good a story... Stole my heart.. The story and the little one :)

  14. I have a digital palette and I love revealing my secrets too :D

  15. At last it was put to good use. Good that you were too late to do anything about it. :D

Your words mean a lot to me.
