Why is my room in such a mess?
Why can I no longer fit into my dress?
Why does everything seem in distress?
Why am I eating so much more instead of less?
I surprise myself by not being myself!
I continue my wayward ways without help!
I used to be tidy & keep things on their shelf,
I was slim & trim & a cool planner myself.
What made me metamorphose, I wonder!
What has made my thoughts meander?
The biggest surprise is what I ponder-
Surprising me by not being me is a blunder!
Linking with Friday Writings#230- Surprise Me!
Some surprises turn into shocks. When you change your likes, behaviour, and ways, much changes.
People who think they used to know you, including you yourself, are in a shock!
What do you say?

It's strange but maybe not, this is almost my exact thinking. Not all changes are bad, we must believe that.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
Great writing Anita! It is a twist to what we expect to happen. I see the humour in this poem.

This reminds me of my initial introduction to The Pause. I've reclaimed what I could and made peace with the rest.
ReplyDeleteInteresting poem. I used to be able to open bottles easily ...now I have to use a screw driver. I still complain that manufacterers are making it more difficult...it's possible or even probable that they are not:)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, many of my changes these days are, I know, due to ageing. Not only do some things become harder to do and many things much slower, but also one's preferences and pleasures alter.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this piece, Anita. The way you look at yourself and think wait when did that happen? feels so true. Change sneaks up on us in all sorts of ways
ReplyDelete"I surprise my self by not being myself". Time continues on while we are oblivious.
