The Bhagavad Gita is the most sacred text for the Hindus.
It is a part of the great epic, Mahabharata.
Shree Krishna imparted valuable lessons to Arjuna in the Kurukshetra battlefield, covering a variety of topics.
The Gita has answers to what a soul seeks, rendered with authority by none other than the Creator Himself.
The best part is that it is documented, and even after thousands of years, it is relevant and precious.
According to me, the most important takeaway from the Gita is-
Focus on the work; not the reward.
Action is yours; results are not.
I keep reminding myself this-
The Gita has 18 Chapters.
The following 18 lines share a summary of the 18 chapters-
Chapter 1 - Wrong thinking is the only problem in life.
Chapter 2 - Right knowledge is the ultimate solution to all our problems.
Chapter 3 - Selflessness is the only way to progress and prosperity.
Chapter 4 - Every act can be an act of prayer.
Chapter 5 - Renounce the ego of individuality and rejoice the bliss of infinity.
Chapter 6 - Connect to the higher consciousness daily.
Chapter 7 - Live what you learn.
Chapter 8 - Never give up on yourself.
Chapter 9 - Value your blessings.
Chapter 10 - See divinity all around.
Chapter 11 - Have enough surrender to see the truth as it is.
Chapter 12 - Absorb your mind in the higher.
Chapter 13 - Detach from Maya and attach to divine.
Chapter 14 - Live a lifestyle that matches your vision.
Chapter 15 - Give priority to Divinity.
Chapter 16 - Being good is a reward in itself.
Chapter 17 - Choosing the right over the pleasant is a sign of power.
Chapter 18 - Let go; let us move to union with God.
Personally, I feel the Gita must be taught in all the schools. It is not a "religious" text.
Rather, it has life-lessons that can solve issues and dilemmas. There are a lot of cases of depravity, depression, and unimaginable human activities like murders, rapes etc. Hopefully God's words will have an impact on those abominable creatures responsible for such crimes.
I often wonder- don't the criminals have any compunction while committing such grave crimes?
The work of the criminals seems like their reward.
They must be getting great satisafaction and joy from looting, raping, killing etc.
But, even if they escape the law, they too have to face the divine action and consequences like every creature that takes birth.
There will be payback time in the next birth, if not in this.
May Shree Krishna grant intelligence, wisdom, strength, courage, and integrity to all.
In Odia, it is said- "Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi"
In English, it means- The round-eyed one (Shree Jagannatha) is watching everything.
