Eat To Live

My mother often used to share wise persons' quotes.

One day, she posed the question- "Do we 'eat to live' or 'live to eat'?

When I feel like a glutton or ponder about what to cook or eat, or when I find some people discussing only about food full-time as though their lives depend on food, I am reminded of my mother.

She made sure we were always fed with hot home-cooked food, served with a lot of love and care, sometimes right from the flame to plate. My mother was a great cook.

Cooking and serving three meals a day for so many people, with a variety of dishes, and maintaining the taste and love is quite an effort. But, she multi-tasked, prepared, and served.

In those days, there were no food delivery apps. One had to physically visit a restaurant or joint to order and pick up the parcel. Even if there were, my mother would not have personally ordered. She always believed in her healthy and wholesome meal preparations, rather than outside food, on which we have no control.

Which oil and how much quantity is used? How many extra spices? Has hygiene been maintained?

We lost our mother 13 years ago.

My father buys food more often these days. He says that he likes to get food from outside for a change of taste. But I secretly think that he does that so we don't have to cook.

Mom, I Promise

Mom, I promise-
I'll try to fulfill your wish.

I'll try more & play fair & square,
Value my time & self-respect everywhere.

Sensibly, I will knock or open the doors,
Not end up being unfair or settling scores!

I am no more brooding or living in the past;
Just revisiting to make your memories last.

Sculpting a better me, scrutinizing with a lens,
Doing your job in the four years of your absence...

I miss you & your guidance so much, what to say or do?
Mom, I promise I remember & will always think of you.

Some Lessons From My Parents

Humility, Honesty, Hope, Happiness, Helpfulness, Health, Habits... just some of the action-words I learnt from my parents.

I am grateful for the lessons I learnt from them. They have been good examples as they practice what they preach. Their actions have a lot to teach... Upholding the high standards they have set is tough...

Sharing a few of their lessons that have made me who I am-

Be humble- fruit-laden trees bend, while others stand tall!
Don’t be haughty- pride comes before a fall!
Be grateful & do everything happily & heartily.
Be hale & hearty, health is wealth, eat & live healthily.

Letter To Mom This Diwali

Dear Mom, I miss you so much...what to say?
Though God has invited you to His heavenly abode,
I have your memories that dazzle everyday.
Distance may separate, but feelings won't erode...

Maa Tujhe Salaam

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

Today morning, I woke up to the sound of patriotic Hindi Movie songs in Lata Mangeshkar’s mellifluous voice blaring out of loudspeakers in the neighbouring Apartment Complex. As I love the songs like Aao Bachchon…Is Mitti se tilak karo yeh dharti hai balidaan ki, Aye mere watan ke logon, Vande Mataram etc., it was a great experience.

What made it more special was that today is neither Republic Day nor Independence Day. Normally patriotism is in the air on these two days…
