I am October - the tenth month of the year,
Reminding you that another new year is near!
Yes, round the corner, just two months after me!
Why think of endings; why not the journey?
Come, let's use every day with care & focus,
I gladly volunteer to be your strong locus.
Now that I woke you up with my timely entry,
You have me by your side like a loyal sentry!
Here we march together in style hand-in-hand.
Let's show all our regal vibes great and grand.
There are still three weeks of my reign here,
Come, let's paint our world with love & cheer!

ReplyDeleteI'm here for it, regal October!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo loved the jaunty exuberance of your lines, Anita. I smiled as I read, your poem itself, like October, a "timely entry" of "love and cheer." Did my heart good, it did. 😊💞
Great October poem I love the line 'We think of endings, why not the journey?" and that last line makes your heart jump
ReplyDeleteOctober, the most colourful month of the year! Delightful, Anita.
ReplyDeleteBravo for these positive sentiments!
ReplyDeleteAn almost musical read. And love the idea of a regal October.
ReplyDeleteGreat first stanza 👏
ReplyDeleteAnita, you do a great job of reminding me of why I like October so much. It's art in motion.
ReplyDeleteYou've personified October very much as I did, yet your rhymes sound distinctly Indian. I like this one.

DeleteOctober... she's welcome to stay the whole month... or three. I so love this. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how we constrain things to make our point. The liturgical year in Greece starts on September 1 every year. In the Islamic calendar (based on lunations) there is no fixed season for the New Year. Vaisakhi in some parts of India is celebrated as the New year and is on 13/14 April. Nowruz in Iran is celebrated on the Northern Spring Equinox, and I could go on and on... In the Southern Hemisphere, our April is the Northern Hemisphere's October. Your poem is good and you look at October as you feel it to be. As someone born in the Northern Hemisphere, and having lived most of my life in the Southern, my seasons are flexible and my months obey my artistic licence. Thank you for your prosaic comment on my poetic thoughts.
