Sanya often wondered what lay beyond the bright blue door in her
grandfather's home's backyard.
He never answered her queries.
Sanya decided to investigate.
When she found a fancy looking
key and key-chain, she acted as though it was her genie in a lamp.

The key lead her to a beautiful
home that looked very familiar.
Climbing up the steps, she
could hear someone working there.

It was her grandfather!
Seeing her, he gave a shout of dismay and betrayal.
“I had planned to gift this home to you on your upcoming birthday.
I’ve constructed it based on your painting.”

Dear Anita,
ReplyDeletePainting? What painting?
Shalom,
Rochelle
Spoiled the surprise, but still a wonderful gift.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, she was still surprised!
ReplyDeleteI also need to know about the painting now! Nice tie in with all the prompts though, you do that well.
ReplyDeleteThe surprise came a little earlier than expected it seems!
ReplyDeleteMy go at Friday Fictioneers!
I'm disappointed when surprises are exposed, and no, nobody's ever tried to construct something based on a painting of mine.
ReplyDeleteHer grandfather loves her so much! She's a lucky person. I wouldn't mind finding out early but it's too bad grandpa couldn't have chosen the time to reveal the big secret.
ReplyDeleteThe extra pics turned the story into a "picture book" reading experience. Innovative.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when someone ruins a surprise. But--I guess I'd have to accept this gift with good grace and hope the grandfather wasn't going to hold it against me :)
ReplyDeleteYou're truly an explorer of surprising ends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice grandfather!
ReplyDeletewish the little grand-daughter had not investigated and got the surprise of her life.
ReplyDeletea surprise should be a surprise. no spoilsport.
